Courtyard by Marriott Baton Rouge Downtown

This hotel was extremely cute. From the moment I arrived, the staff was very friendly. They gave exceptional customer service. The room was very clean and had all of the necessary items in it. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel was in the ideal location to restaurants and shopping. Great for walking downtown. Definitely would stay again.

This Marriott is definitely lacking for being a Marriott property. We checked in and they gave us a handicap room which is usually fine except the way the bathroom was layed out. If someone showered the whole bathroom floor would fill with water. We also found a cockroach in our room. I then notified reception about the shower issue and the cockroach. She first tried to blow it off and said they the pest guy comes on Wednesday and it’s normal to find dead bugs. This was Saturday and the roach was very much alive as I showed her a video. She told us she would move us to another room and would upgrade us to a balcony room but it would be a while. We said that was fine also at that point I asked for late checkout which she said was ok and she put in the system for 2:00 PM. We left for a few hours and came back and there was a new person working the desk. When I asked about our room she had no idea about the room change and apparently nothing was in the system. She then assigned us a new room..we got to our room and it was a general room and the AC wasn’t cold. We headed back downstairs and explained what we were told by the previous person we spoke with. She then assigned us another room which was a balcony room as promised. The day of our last stay we left in the morning and came back around 12:15 to our room and our keys didn’t work. I had to go back down to guest services who said there was nothing in the account for late check out and we had to get new keys issued. These are things that usually don’t happen while staying with Marriott..parking is also $10 which is fine except it’s across the street and you have to walk down an alley way. This neighborhood Gets very sketchy after dark. Bistro in hotel also was never open..thank goodness for Starbucks being connected to the hotel.

If you want a hotel close to LSU, you might choose this hotel. A few restaurants within walking distance. Pros: Nice Marriott with 8 floors and Starbucks downstairs ( look for hrs). Rooms: Designed okay for a small room. Cons: Noisey especially if LSU won the game on the streets till way in the morning. Room: Several lights didn't work in the room - on the balcony and by the refrigerator. Housekeeping: Staff for housekeeping was polite.They should check behind furniture for trash and wrappers ( not ours). Bathrooms: Someone should check the baseboards for cleaning and wallpaper that is peeling off the corner. Door to balcony doesn't lock. A reason? Staff: I think everyone should wear a name tag. After asking a question one of the staff completely changed to a negative attitude. Guests should not be made uncomfortable for asking a question. Parking: I understand the valet parking, but it didn't say on the website, the self parking price. Hint: Parking is not with the hotel and is a self parking lot across and away from the hotel. All in all make your own decision on where you stay while visiting the city, I have made mine.
